The BC Unclaimed Property Society has released its 2025 Annual Report, detailing a year of operational growth, measurable impact, and continued commitment to reconnecting British Columbians with their unclaimed property.

The report highlights a significant amount of unclaimed funds — almost $17.6 million received during the year, reflecting strong participation from reporting organizations.

2025 by the numbers

  • 🤝 $3.8M: Returned to rightful claimants

  • 🔎 4,800+: Proactive location efforts to find owners

A year of action and investment made an impact

Beyond the numbers, 2025 was defined by action. Ensuring $3.8 million was reunited with individuals, families, and organizations across the province involved media outreach and more than 4,800 targeted location efforts which were carried out to proactively identify and contact people whose funds were held.

A major milestone this year was the complete overhaul of the BC Unclaimed website back end and database. This modernization strengthens data security, supports long-term program sustainability, and significantly improves the experience for both claimants and reporting organizations.

Reflecting on the year, Executive Director Sherry MacLennan emphasized both results and progress.

“The momentum we saw in 2025 is a testament to the trust placed in BC Unclaimed and the dedication of our team and partners. We returned our second-highest annual amount to British Columbians while building a program that’s secure, accessible, and ready to serve the province. Modernizing our systems positions us strongly for 2026 and beyond.”

The 2025 Annual Report provides a transparent look at BC Unclaimed’s financial performance, operational advancements, and commitment to community-focused charitable funding across British Columbia. Of note is record-setting donation of more than $11 million to Vancouver Foundation, ensuring unclaimed funds continue to do good work for the people of BC.

“We believe every unclaimed fund has the power to create a better future for individuals and communities,” added MacLennan.

As awareness of unclaimed property continues to increase, BC Unclaimed remains focused on expanding partnerships with organizations ready to get unclaimed funds off their books, and accelerating efforts to reunite people with what is rightfully theirs.

We invite the public and stakeholders to explore the 2025 Annual Report and see how BC Unclaimed is good for consumers, good for business, and good for BC — today and into the future.
