BC Unclaimed connects with advocates to help more people reclaim their money
November 27, 2025
BC Unclaimed recently took part in the Provincial Advocates Training Conference, hosted by the Law Foundation of British Columbia. The annual event brings together advocates from across the province who work every day to improve access to justice for people facing financial and legal challenges.
This year, our team hosted an information table to help raise awareness about BC Unclaimed and answer questions about how we return unclaimed funds to rightful owners. It was a valuable opportunity to meet advocates in person, introduce our work to new audiences, and highlight how our services can help those who need it most.
Reaching those who need support
Many of the people we aim to reach are navigating difficult circumstances such as poverty, housing instability, or complex legal issues. For some, unclaimed funds could offer meaningful financial relief, but they may not know that this money exists, or may be uncertain about whether BC Unclaimed is legitimate.
That is where advocates can make a real difference. As trusted advisers, they are often the first people clients turn to for help. When they share information about BC Unclaimed and encourage clients to search our database, it increases the chance that someone will take that important next step to see if funds are waiting for them.
Building trust through information
Throughout the conference, our team had many conversations with advocates who wanted to understand how unclaimed funds end up with BC Unclaimed and how clients can make a claim. We were able to explain that unclaimed funds come from many sources, including court payments, wages, insurance proceeds, and estate distributions.
Hearing about our work in person often helps people see how simple and secure the process can be. For those working directly with vulnerable individuals, that clarity builds confidence and trust — both in our organization and in the process itself.
Continuing outreach across BC
Events like the Provincial Advocate Training Conference are an important part of BC Unclaimed’s outreach efforts. Each interaction helps raise awareness and strengthens our connection to communities across the province. We value the role that advocates play in helping British Columbians access what is rightfully theirs.
